Kopser marked first endorsement in 2018 cycle by gun violence prevention organization

Washington, D.C., May 22, 2018 - Following Joseph Kopser’s victory tonight in the Democratic primary runoff in Texas’s 21st congressional district, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence hailed his victory as a win for gun violence prevention advocates. Brady co-presidents Kris Brown and Avery Gardiner stated:

“Tonight’s election is proof that making gun violence prevention a signature issue in a campaign is a winning strategy in 2018. This Brady-endorsed candidate is running as an unabashed supporter of common sense reforms, including a ban on the manufacture and sale of new assault weapons and expansions of the background check system for gun purchases. We applaud his victory tonight as he moves on to the general election. Just as in last November’s elections in Virginia and New Jersey, we are seeing that the American people want real movement on this issue, and they will stand up and vote for candidates who can deliver - not the NRA-backed candidates who just want more of the same. We look forward to supporting Joseph Kopser and other gun violence prevention candidates on their way to victory this year.”
